The Spider Project

I am drawn to old things … old cars, old buildings, old times. Perhaps I am overly nostalgic or just getting old, but I am driven to capture these places before they disappear. Putting an old car in front of an old building is like reuniting old friends. A few years ago I acquired a 1982 Alfa Romeo Spider. One day not long after I got it, I was driving through Nicasio on a cloudy day and, on a whim, pulled over and parked it in front of the Druid’s Hall … a building I had driven past numerous times always with a thought to photograph. Ever since, I have been driving the Spider around the Bay looking for interesting places to photograph. Honestly, I’m not sure whether I drive the car to photograph, or photograph to drive the car. Either way, it’s a project that continues to drive both my passions.

“A car isn’t classic just because it’s old. To be a classic, a car has to tell us something of its time.” — James May
